Our History
Jamii Yetu Sacco Ltd(formerly MMH Sacco Ltd) was started in 1994 with a membership of 100 with a common bond being Maua Methodist Hospital payroll Staff. In the late 1990s, all the Commercial banks in town
pulled out and the members were left with nowhere to bank. In 1999,the idea of the Front Office
Activity (FOSA) was mooted and embraced by the Management and the general membership as well. The
FOSA became fully operational in the year 2000.However, in order to sustain the same it became
apparent that the common bond (i.e within the Maua Methodist Hospital Payroll), had to be
opened/expanded in order to accommodate the rest of the residents within the former Meru North
District (now Igembe North, Igembe South, Tigania East and Tigania West Districts).
From a humble beginning of 100 account holders, the FOSA now boosts of over 70,000 account holders
and a membership of 35,000. Jamii Yetu SACCO has been working in partnership with World Council of Credit
Unions (WOCCU) in a project that is sponsored by the Bill and Belinda Gates Foundation. Jamii Yetu SACCO
was one of the Four (4) SACCOs which participated in the project which mainly focused on
capacity building of both the Board and staff members.
Jamii Yetu SACCO is owned by members who in Annual General Meetings elect a Board of Directors (9 Members) and the Supervisory Committee of 3 Members.
